While the beautifully painted and colored backgrounds could be a cartoon by themselves, what really makes this film so exciting to watch are the foregrounds, where everything is animated, all at once, layered over the aforementioned animated background. The music is catchy, The elf, in particular, is finely animated and is always busy waking up the neighborhood, which contains all sorts of characters, people, birds and animals. The elf wakes them all, while repeating "Time For Spring, ...It's Time For Spring I Say!". I first saw this cartoon when my son was about three years old. It was on a VHS collection that contained cartoons that were in the "Public Domain". He chose it in the video store, I rented it He watched it by himself. Usually, we watched movies together. But I thought that this collection would be crap. Then I heard the music from "Spring", I went to the room where my boy was watching. At once, I starting liking this cartoon's movement and music. And especially the movement TO the music. It was uncommonly catchy and fun. The Elf moved to the music, but when he walked he walked a bit like Popeye in the '30s Popeye cartoons. "To Spring" is an excellent film. It should be bought, cleaned up, and show it on TV. It's that good....
