Middletown Republicans False Rants and Drivel Continue

When I opened up my inbox tonight I found the following letter from Lincroft resident Barbara Thorpe.

Mrs. Thorpe has lived in Middletown most, if not all of her life. She has been very active in town and has seen many changes to to the community over the years and when Barbara Thorpe talks people listen.

She wrote this letter in response to some very uninformed and totally untrue drivel that Tristen Nelsen wrote about Middletown Democratic Committeeman Sean Byrnes and his efforts to establish a finance committee to recommend, advise and to help the Township Committee with preparing the yearly budget.

For those of you who do not know who Tristen Nelsen is, she is the failed Republican candidate for Township Committee that came in 4th behind her runningmate Gerry Sharfenberger and Democrats Sean Byrnes and Janet Moscuzza two years ago. But I'll have my own rebuttel to her letter later, below is Mrs. Thorpe's:

"The republican political hacks in Middletown continue the ridiculous drivel they have become noted for these many last months and perhaps years. This now includes the candidate who lost to Committeeman Sean Byrnes two years ago. Hasn't Tristen Nelsen ever heard ,no one respects a sore loser ?? Sean Byrnes out qualified her plain and simple Maybe her most notable qualification was her last name and whatever connection she has to the newly appointed township attorney .

The people in this town want fair representation of each resident, regardless of partisan politics.and Sean Byrnes and Patrick Short try to provide representation of all the people of Middletown. It's no longer business behind closed doors as it's been for so many years in the past under an unchallenged majority of republicans.

Speaking to the budget in Middletown.this township has no approved budget because the Republican majority has stonewalled every attempt at reaching a consensus for a budget in Middletown. They are so used to doing whatever they wanted without restraint. They can't cope with two Democrats now involved in making policy here in town. The Republicans have their heads in the sand and are oblivious to current economic conditions in this town, this county ,this state and this country. Rhetoric doesn't solve problems. Action solves problems ! A budget committee is a good idea as suggested by Committeeman Byrnes.

The Township of Middletown also needs a forensic audit by an accredited accounting firm with no ties to any politician in this township. The need is long overdue. The question is, what are the republicans trying to hide ?? It's time to find out !!!

Tristan NelsEn. Brian NelsOn. Their names aren't even spelled the same. What a ridiculous comment that “most notable qualification was her last name and whatever connection she has to the newly appointed township attorney.”
Also, just because she lost an election doesn’t mean that we can’t listen to what she has to say … although I would be intrigued about the possibility of not having to listen to someone who was a “loser” candidate (will Mrs. Thorpe ever stop the name calling?) in an election – because then we wouldn’t have to listen to Pat Walsh (a 3 X “loser”, right?) and Jim Grenefege anymore :)

Hey Mike, you share a name with William Morris. Are you a socialist, too? (sarcasm)

Can I make just a small correction? Tristan's last name is Nelsen, and the township attorney's last name is Nelson. No big deal, maybe they're still family, potato, potatoe...

Anonymous,

Just for the record this is Mrs. Thorpe's letter and opinion I did not make any corrections to it.

And to a certain extent your right about Tristan Nelsen, just because she lost an election it doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to her. The problem is however that Ms. Nelsen is woefully uninformed.

Over the past year and a half since her loss she has not been to more than a handful of township meetings!

Say what you like about Walsh and GrenAfege at least they are informed and attend township committee meetings on a regular basis.

And for the record Pat Walsh has won 3 school board elections, she lost narrowly her race for the Assembly and then her election fro township committee.

Grenafege is a smart and intelligent person with loads of experience in the corporate world of HR and social services. He doesn't speak unless he knows what he is talking about, unlike others that presently sit on the township committee.

Thank you Chris,

I do not believe they are related.

Mike ... I was the 1st anon poster. I agree that we should listen to all opinions. I was just trying to make the point that some of the comments made by Mrs. Thorpe had no bearing on any "issue" ... and were just generic / baseless personal attacks. Trying to adapt her logic to the other side of the aisle.

Regarding attending meetings, you give your opinion (& are certainly entitled to), yet you don't regularly attend meetings. Why the double standard with Tristan?

I do think Jim is smart ... and I never said otherwise.

Knew you would make the point about the School elections with Mrs. Walsh. Did she run opposed the 1st time she ran? Whose seat did she fill when she first ran? Of course, you know that T/C elections are MUCH different and tougher than running for the incestuous school board.

Anonymous,

I do not know Mrs. Thorpe very well, I've met her on just a few occasions and haven't said much more to her than hello.

I know that she is very opinionated and very strong willed and she speaks her mind. She is not always "politically correct" but she is often right. By her speaking out on various subjects a lot has been done for the people of Lincroft. I don't know what happened to change her or why she has changed opinions about the ruling republicans in town but evidently she feels she has been wronged. So be it.

I attend all meetings that my schedule allows. I am shiftworker and therefore have hours that reak havoc on my life. I listen to tape recordings of the meetings that I miss that others are inattendance record for our records. It is from these recordings that I post audio to my blog from. So even though I can not attend every meeting personnely I am very well aware of what goes on and what is said.

Tristan Nelsen and Peter VanNortwick along with others write uninformed letters and make false statements in those letters to make others look foolish. They talk about things, that if they were at the meetings instead of others telling them what to write, they would know them to be not true.

As for Mrs. Walsh, I don't know who she ran against in her 1st school board election but I know that in her last two races she was opposed by others. And your right T/C elections are different to a certain extent, it really is all about timing and name recognition. Pat Walsh garnered the most votes any other democrat in Middeltown has received in 20 years last election. The reason why she lost was because it was a presidential year. Middeltown is a republican town, no doubt about it, Obama lost Middletown by nearly 9,000 votes, Walsh lost by 6,000.

Mike,

Thanks for the dialogue. I disagree with you much of the time ... but still value your opinion. these types of "rational" discussions are productive. It is okay to disagree on issues without having to vilify the other. My only beef with you is that you should watch some of the name calling.
Wish everyone wasn't so blinded by parisan interest. And this does indeed occur on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Anonymous,

I don't call people names, I used descriptive adjectives, there is a difference.

And if you disagree with what I say or write please leave me a comment.

To often people parrot what others tell them to and do not know the real facts.

I spend way to much time preparing this blog to just throw out innuendo and rumors. When I am told something from a credible source that I feel is in a position to know the details then I will write something about it. If that person does not want his name used then I have to respect them.

There is an awful lot of stuff to learn about Middletown or any town for that matter, if you don't take things on face value, are willing to ask questions and do the research.

Thanks for reading!

Who did I call names Anonymous? You sound like the one who calls people names...as in your tirade against Pat Walsh. I think you are part of the republicans so active in the last t/c election who was engaged in the dirtiest campaign I have ever seen in the forty two years I have lived in this township..All I stated was Tristan Nelson lost to Sean Byrnes, that is a FACT.

The constant drivel coming from the republicans in this township disgusts me and it's time to govern as they were elected to do.All the mayor and deputy mayor do is blame SOMEONE ELSE for EVERYTHING WRONG in this township. Where have they been all this time, asleep at the switch??

I fully believe a forensic audit of Middletown's books would be beneficial and possibly revealing. The town's residents HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!!!

Mike,as to being wronged,I can show you the documentation from a former committee person who thought they could intimidate me when I had a sign in support of Pat Short on my lawn when he first ran for office.NO ONE tells me how to vote and integrity in a candidate is first and foremost with me.The person who tried that certainly lacked integrity.

I have documentation to support any feelings about being wronged I might harbor against some of these less than ethical individuals I've encountered in government and some of their comrades.I see the republican party in Middletown today willing to stoop to any depths to retain control in this township no matter who they trample over or who they use to accomplish that goal! I want no part of that conduct.I am now an unaffiliated voter entitled as always to vote for people not parties and I call it as I see it regardless of the candidate's party affiliation.

Mrs. Thorpe,

Keep doing what you are doing, the world needs more people like you who are willing to speak their minds regardless of what others may think. You have and do, make a difference.

I appreciate that you think enough of this blog to send letters and leave comments to it.

If others wished to participate I would welcome them as well.
