Times must be hard – Americans are buying Spam again

There is always one sure way to tell when the economy is hurting and times hard, you just have to look at the sales figures for that all American meat in a can "Spam".

According to an article written by Mike Harvey of the Times Online  sales of this pink all American processes meat in a can have shot up by over 10%  in the last 3 months.

Evidently there seems to be a correlation between the the rise in spam sales to the record number of Americans who are currently using food stamps. More then 31.5 million individuals are participating in the food stamps program as of September of this year, which is a 17% increase from previous years according to the government.

If you haven't purchased spam yourself in a while, it sells for about $2.40 per 12 ounce tin.

I brought a couple of tins of spam a few months ago because the guys in my work crew and myself, were reminiscing nostalgically about it one day, remembering how our mothers would cook it with eggs or fry in a skillet for  a hot sandwich.

It had to have been over 35 years since I last ate spam and believe it or not, it was really good!

The next time I'm in Shoprite I think i'll pick it up again.
